Since I don't have a DVD burner, I can't tell you whether or not Windows Movie Maker 2 has settings for DVDs (Probably not). I have searched all over for a driver so this will work, any suggestions Since Win98 doesn't, in itself, support CD or DVD burners, they all show up as "standard CD-rom." Your mystery drive might be ID'd to the mfg via the FCC ID # at the FCC site; perhaps the generic MMC drivers will work anyway. I don't want to use it on my present computer (HP a350n) because HP has warned me that installing the wrong burning software can cause the CD/DVD burner to lose its ability to write.

Its an easy mistake to make if the media the DVD burner will work with is not made clear in the documentation that came with the Laptop. would be excellent My 8X DVD Burner will burn 4X rated media at 8X with no problems. Usually you will find this with branded media such as TDK or memorex etc.

DVD & CD Burners seen as CD-ROM
Windows 98 didn't include a driver for USB mass storage--and while Windows Me might, I never played with it enough to know. Windows 2000 and newer do have such a driver, and it is probably what Memorex thought would do just fine. There might be a ray of hope if you can figure out who made the bridge chip in the

He also got some Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-R. No problems. He is sooooo busy that he barely has time to rip and burn - that's why he needs a fast burner like the NEC, I can use those crap 8x Memorex from Worst Buy - as long as I burn at 4x. At 8x all the Sony could turn out is coasters, one after the other.

DVDtRW Vs. DVD-RW
First I thought it was my CD-R disk was the problem, but I've used the same Memorex brand since day one and they were fine before. I've created dozens of coasters already. The DVD burner, however, still works fine. It uses DVD+R. It doesn't make sense to me; can it just be needing a driver update?

I just purchased an external HP 200 DVD burner last week. I've been trying to use "DVD X COPY" software to copy DVD movies. Originally thesoftware wouldn't recognize the drive for my burner. After having no success early in the week, I was told to reinstall the drivers for the software.

CD-R still empty after the copy
Now, the *only* driver that could possibly have failed is one of my 2 CD/DVD drives (one is a reader-only and the other is a burner). Memorex in particular seems to cause a lot of problems. It is also quite common for UDF formatted disks to be unreadable in drives other than the one they were formatted in.

Windows native drivers will allow you to burn stuff because it's recognizing it as a CD burner, but to read a DVD you need external software. which I built, and which works fine except for one thing: The Memorex DVD RW 16x16 [dual layer] is not recognized by windows xp personal as a dvd burner.
